A young child cannot tolerate a rubber cup. What is your plan?
Use toothbrush-and-toothpaste prophylaxis when it meets the child's needs, and demonstrate caregiver brushing.
- Assess deposits first: a toothbrush removes plaque but does not remove calculus, which may need hand or ultrasonic instrumentation as tolerated.
- Inability to tolerate a rubber cup does not itself prevent indicated topical fluoride treatment.
