How does Cystic fibrosis affect dental management?

Visit planning: Upright position, short visits; later-morning or afternoon appointments after airway clearance
Sedation: Assess respiratory reserve, secretions, current infection, and prior anesthesia before sedation.
Advanced lung disease: Respiratory depressants and positive-pressure rescue can pose particular risks in advanced lung disease; select drugs and setting with the CF/anesthesia team.
Individual choice: CF alone is not an automatic ban on all sedation
Bleeding assessment: liver disease or vitamin K malabsorption can prolong PT/INR; check before surgery.
Antibiotics: Review current antibiotics, culture history, and drug interactions if systemic treatment of dental infection is indicated; ongoing pulmonary antibiotics do not replace definitive dental treatment
Diabetes and saliva: Screen for CF-related diabetes; manage hyposalivation
